The Opportunity:
You will gain exposure to all aspects of the business and engage regularly with senior level staff members including the board of directors. You will have the autonomy to recommend and deliver strategies and channels that will maximise commercial sales for both the Union and our Insurance Services businesses. Join a marketing team with an inclusive and flexible culture, where you will be given a high degree of independence (with support from both the policy and business development teams) to deliver Wales-wide campaigns in both the English and Welsh language. You will be required to manage and lead on all marketing brands, communications and websites for the Union and FUW Insurance Services. You will provide organisational leadership and management for all marketing related issues on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for all marketing activities including delivering effective, targeted, multi-channel promotions, events and campaigns. You will need to provide appropriate tools, materials and presentations to achieve company commercial objectives. You will be required to develop strategies, manage the Group marketing budget, set goals and ensure consistent brand messaging across various marketing channels. You will need to manage, instruct and be the central contact for all sub-contractors and suppliers.

 

Essential Experience:
● Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior marketing role
● Proven experience in delivering marketing campaigns: Ability to plan, execute, and monitor marketing campaigns within deadlines and budget constraints. Experience of delivering commercial targets
● Strong communication skills: Ability to clearly convey marketing messages both verbally and in writing, tailoring content to different audiences
● Analytical skills: Understanding data and metrics to measure marketing campaign performance and make informed decisions
● Digital marketing proficiency: Familiarity with key digital marketing channels including website development, email marketing, SEO, and PPC
● Event management: Ability to plan, execute, and monitor marketing campaigns within deadlines and budget constraints. Expectation of travel and attendance at key events throughout the year.
● Brand management / Creative skills: Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite with the ability to write compelling copy, designing graphics and producing video content. Generating innovative ideas for marketing campaigns that resonate with target audiences
● Leadership skills: Experience of briefing and managing marketing teams, agencies, web developers and other external contractors

 

Desirable Criteria:
● Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh
● Understanding or previous experience of the agricultural or insurance sectors
● CIM qualifications
● A strong understanding of marketing trends and techniques

Senedd and Parliamentary Affairs Officer (Maternity Cover)

 

 JOB TITLE 

Senedd and Parliamentary Affairs Officer (SPAO) (Maternity Cover) - Farmers’ Union of Wales 

SALARY 

£25,000 - £29,000 

Contract period: 12 months

GENERAL 

The SPAO will work remotely and/or from one of the FUW’s offices across Wales, but will, where practical and necessary, attend meetings in person with other FUW staff or outside bodies and individuals. The SPAO will be expected to be available and to work in close proximity to the Senedd during the sitting week. 

It is anticipated that the role of SPAO consists of 0.6 FTE political engagement and 0.4 FTE policy tasks on average. However, these commitments will need to vary significantly based on political events and policy demands. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Implement the FUW public affairs plan which will involve; 

  • Developing relationships with political stakeholders including politicians, support staff, officials, committee clerks, civil servants and representatives of other organisations working in areas of interest to the FUW. 
  • Monitoring political and policy activity. 
  • Provide FUW staff and officials with written and verbal political updates including guidance relating to upcoming policy changes, legislation and inquiries of relevance to Welsh agriculture, whether instigated in Cardiff or Westminster. 
  • Produce briefings for political stakeholders based on the information provided by the policy team. 
  • Work with the SMT, policy and communications teams on developing and implementing timely and effective campaigns which will influence elected stakeholders in Wales and Westminster. 
  • Stakeholder mapping and engagement. 
  • Organising meetings with political and other stakeholders. 

 

 

  • Preparing briefings for FUW representatives ahead of meetings. 
  • Representing the FUW as and when necessary. 
  • Conduct research and briefings as and when required. 
  • Keeping up to date with political and policy developments. 
  • Provide regular reports to the Chief Executive on progress against the PA plan 
  • Work closely with the Presidential Team of the Union in attending and representing the FUW at political meetings. 
  • To lead and advise on policy related issues based on interests and as required by the Policy Department. 
  • This list is not exhaustive and will include any other reasonable duties given by your line manager. 

 

General 

Assisting with supporting the work of the Standing Committees of the Council of the Union and other committees convened as necessary to deal with issues relating to agricultural policy. 

Participating in the general activities of the FUW. 

Additional duties as required from time to time by the Agricultural Policy Department. 

Personal specification 

The successful candidate will need to have; 

  • A detailed understanding of the policy and political context in which we operate. 
  • A good understanding of the workings of government and Senedd procedures. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write reports, and to write copy for a range of audiences in a variety of formats. 
  • A high degree of self-motivation and organisational skills. 
  • Demonstrate effective customer care skills. 
  • A recognition and regard for observing confidentiality. 
  • The capacity to work as part of a team. 
  • An ability to work on their own initiative and to meet set timescales and prioritising certain work streams and delivering under pressure. 
  • A willingness to develop as an individual through attendance at courses, meetings, training events, workshops and seminars. Such activity will serve to develop the candidate and to better serve the organisation. 
  • Welsh Language skills are desirable but support will be provided to a suitable candidate wishing to improve their Welsh language capabilities. 

 

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 

Salary is paid at monthly intervals. 

Hours of work are normally 35 hours per week - 9.00am to 5.00pm, with 1 hour for lunch - but it may, on occasion, be necessary to work additional hours.

Holiday entitlement will be 25 working days per annum exclusive of Public Holidays. Annual leave will be deducted during the Company shutdown over Christmas equal to a 

maximum of 3 days. The FUW Group also provides St. David’s Day as an additional paid holiday. 

The possession of a car and a driving licence or the ability to travel around Wales without reliance on public transport is essential for this post. 

Expenses for journeys undertaken on FUW business will be reimbursed at agreed rates upon production of satisfactory receipts in line with our expenses policy.

You will be supported by a local and national staff team and you will work closely with our agricultural policy team as well as the county office staff in 12 counties across Wales.  You will support the work of your colleagues within the County in supporting our members within the county.

About you:

A degree in Agricultural / Environmental Science or a related subject would be desirable and / or experience of the agricultural sector here in Wales.  You will also have an understanding of agenda’s surrounding farming and related matters on a national and UK level.  Ideally you will have a proven track record of being able to complete grant submissions, reports and environmental assessments on behalf of farmers.

To succeed in this role, you will be:

· A natural communicator who enjoys meeting and helping people
· Responsible for promoting the aims and values of the Union
· Focused on attracting new members and serving our existing membership base in supporting their needs
· Willing to sell and promote all the services provided by the FUW
