Llanddewi Brefi farmer appointed as new FUW CEO in Ceredigion

A familiar face to many farmers in Ceredigion, is Caryl Haf Jones - the newest edition to the Farmers’ Union of Wales County Executive Officer team. Born and bred from Llanddewi Brefi - the family have been farming at Maesyronnen all their lives.

Caryl has been running the farm Troedyrhiw, with her husband Emyr, for the last 2 years and the couple keep about 500 ewes on mountain and lowland (70 acres owned and 110 acres rented). Emyr also works on a dairy farm and tends to the home farm in the evenings and weekends.

Her pride and joy is the pedigree flock of Blue Texel’s, which she takes to local shows, as well as the Royal Welsh Show and sells at various sales, including the NSA ram sale.

In her spare time she also enjoys a bit of Tug-of-War and has pulled for the Welsh ladies in the World and UK championships for the last 2 years.

Before starting work for the FUW in the Lampeter office, Caryl worked for CCF for the last 8 years and has been the manager in the Tregaron store for the last 4.5 years. She is also the Vice Chairman for Ceredigion YFC and with a degree in Agriculture and Business from Aberystwyth University and a wealth of on-farm knowledge, she is well set to look after members in Ceredigion.

Speaking about her appointment, Caryl said: “I am really excited about starting my new role as a County Executive Officer here in Ceredigion and I look forward to meeting everyone at the local shows and marts over the coming months.

“I know what farmers need from the experience I have gained in my previous job, I understand their worries and on-farm problems and I understand the changing trends in the land. I see things from the farmers perspective, am not shy to speak up and will do all I can to help our farmers in Wales transition through the Brexit process.

“I want to make sure that our farmers in Wales are looked after, as equal or better than what we have now and I want them to be as informed as possible about the policies they are going to be faced with in years to come. And I think my ability to talk to people and relay information clearly and concisely will be of great help in making that happen. So please - don’t be afraid to come to see me if you’re worried about anything. The door is always open.”

Speaking about the new appointment, Caryl Roberts, FUW Membership and Operations Manager, said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Caryl to the FUW team. Her enthusiasm and passion for the farming industry is undeniable.

“The strength of the FUW is in the fantastic teams we have across Wales representing our members in all counties. I know that Caryl will flourish in her new role and will continue to ensure our members are represented and receive the highest standard of services possible.”
