Glastir Woodland Creation Grant Scheme

The Glastir Woodland Creation Grant Scheme is a bespoke element of Glastir and offers grants to landowners to create new woodlands on their land.  Grants are available to support the costs associated with creating new woodlands as well as income foregone payments for the land taken out of agriculture.

There are 3 grants available -

  • Establishment grants

These grants are claimed by the agreement holder in the year that the planting is carried out and in the two years following the planting.

  • Fencing grant rates

These include an allowance for any gates or stiles. Landowners can upgrade to deer fencing or rabbit fencing at their own cost.  These are only available for new planting.

  • Income foregone payments

This is available to farmers and non-farmers alike.  It is known as the 'woodland creation premium' (WCP) and is claimed annually on the Single Application Form.

The Woodland Creation Grant Scheme is available to all landowners in Wales with eligible land over 0.25ha.  It is a stand alone scheme within Glastir - you do not need to be part of the All Wales or Targeted Elements to be eligible to join.

The full set of Scheme rules and eligiblity criteria are available by clicking here.

The Grant Scheme is administered by the Forestry Commission on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government.  Applications to the Scheme will involve the use of Forestry Commission employed Project Officers who will complete the process on behalf of applicants.

Further information, including payment rates and how to apply, is available on the Forestry Commission website.
