The production of red meat contributes over 40% of the annual total value of Welsh agricultural output and is valued at over £360 million.   Distributed throughout Wales, beef and sheep holdings employ over 65,000 people and play a pivotal role in supporting the rural economy.

Welsh livestock production benefits from the wet Welsh climate, the quality of the grasslands and the continuation of traditional family farms. The industry has a valued place in the sustainable management of Welsh resources and in the maintenance of the countryside landscape.

The FUW’s Livestock, Wool and Marts Committee deals with all issues relating to the livestock and wool industries.

The Chairman of the Livestock, Wool and Marts Committee is Mr Dafydd Roberts, a beef and sheep farmer from Anglesey.
