Revision of the Guidelines for the Selection of Sites of Special Scientific Interest
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee is currently consulting on the revised version of the guidance for the selection of Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
The JNCC and the country Agencies have recently been revising the Guidelines for the selection of Biological SSSI's. An inter-agency group was formed last year to undertake an update to Parts A and B of the Guidelines (the 'Rationale, Operational Approach and Criteria for Site Selection), which have now been merged into a single Part 1. They are now inviting comments on the revised Part 1 Guidelines.
This is a pretty technical document, however, it does provide some useful background information on the history and rationale of SSSI designation.
