All Wales Common Land Element

Common land in Wales plays an important role as an agricultural, environmental, recreational and cultural resource as well as forming an important element of the farming tradition as a grazing resource.  It also plays a key role in the management of habitats and the Welsh landscape.

Under the All Wales Common Land element there are two options available to graziers who are considering joining Glastir -

  1. A closed period of 3 continuous months in a 5 month period between November and March;
  2. Minimum and maximum stocking densities tailored to each common with monthly diaries kept to record the movement of stock.

Further details of the two options as well as the scheme requirements are contained within the explanatory booklet published by the Welsh Government.  The Welsh version of the booklet can be downloaded by clicking here and the English version by clicking here.

Common Land Development Officers

As part of the package to support graziers who want to join Glastir, the Welsh Government has employed a number of Common Land Development Officers who are based throughout Wales to work in conjunction with existing Grazier Associations/Commons Associations.  They will provide help to form new associations where necessary for the purpose of entering Glastir and provide information on common land issues.

Common Land Development Officers are available to offering advice and information either on a one-to-one basis, or to a group of graziers.

The contact details for the Common Land Development Officers and the areas they cover are available in the table below.
